In answer to your questions,
In answer to your questions, we offer the following:
1. Please see the Health Affairs paper by Linda Aiken, June 2009; this will have the figures that you need.
2. Medicare follows the patient and reimburses Medicare-certified health care agencies for treating patients. This includes a whole range of health care facilities including many that do not have the infrastructure for training future clinicians.
3. The Medicare Graduate Nursing Education demonstration program is funded for 4 years with $200 million. This provision in the Patient Protection and Affordability Act is now under CMS’ purview. AARP and leaders within the nursing community will continue to monitor the progress of the GNE program.

Hospital and HMO Clinical Sites for RN students
Does anyone in your organization have any numbers regarding the funding from the federal government that is given to facilities who have contracts with nursing programs to provide clinical sites?
If facilities accept Medicare dollars at ALL do they have the option or are they required (I hope it is the later) to have students at their sites so the next generation of providers can acquire apporpriate training.
And what kind of money are we talking about? In the past many more dollars were going to Physician training programs, not nursing programs. Do we have any recourse to CMS to discuss these issues?
