Abstract

This is the text of a notice sent to nursing colleagues by Susan C. Reinhard, RN, PhD, FAAN Senior Vice President and Director AARP Public Policy Institute Chief Strategist, Center to Champion Nursing in America.

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you will register now to attend the National Summit on Advancing Health through Nursing taking place November 30 – December 1 in Washington, DC. Registration ends Tuesday, November 16 at noon ET. Don Berwick, MD, MPP, Administrator, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has just been announced as the key note speaker for the Summit!

The Summit provides a tremendous opportunity for all stakeholders—businesses and payors; consumers and patient advocates; nurses, physicians, and other health care providers; and long term care, home health and community care providers—to influence how the IOM report recommendations are implemented to contribute to the future of health care. By participating in the Summit you can both build connections with key national and local leaders and play a central part in forging partnerships and solutions that will:

  • Increase the supply of nurses to provide key health care services such as primary care, preventive care and chronic care management.
  • Hold down health care costs.
  • Increase the availability of data to forecast health care staffing needs.
  • Support family caregivers.
  • Increase patient safety and decrease medical errors.
  • Increase provider choice for consumers.
  • Increase access to high quality health care.
