Apr 10, 2009 | CCNA E-Alerts

Abstract

April 10, 2009 | CCNA E-Alert

On Friday, April 10 at 10:00 AM, AARP’s Inside E Street will air a story on the nursing shortage, Hurting for Nurses. Just as baby boomers are starting to age, America is facing the worst nursing shortage in 50 years. By 2020 this country is projected to need half-a-million nurses. There are plenty of people wanting to enroll in nursing school, but the schools do not have enough qualified nurse-educators available to teach. Why the bottleneck? And how can the problem be solved?

Guests include Rep. Lois Capps (D-CA); Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL); Ann Converso, United American Nurses, AFL-CIO; and Polly Bednash, American Association of Colleges of Nursing. It will also be posted on www.aarp.org/tv after the airing.

Additionally, CCNA Director Brenda Cleary appeared as a guest expert on AARP’s Prime Time Focus radio program. This episode, also focused on the nursing shortage, will air on radio stations across the country beginning April 20. To find a local station and air time, go here .
