Practice to full extent - Gap Analysis

The FL-AC Practice Action Team is interested in conducting a gap analysis to identify information related to the inability to practice to the full extent of one's education and experience.  We believe that this is an issue for all levels of nurse licensure and that the causes are varied - legislative (scope); regulatory; employer policy; work environment/culture; etc.  Does anyone have a tool that we can look at?  Other suggestions?  Thanks, Mary Lou

Mary Lou, great question and a great opportunity to pool resources. You may already be aware that CA has just completed this sort of gap analysis. I know it covers NP practice, and I'm not certain whether they included all RNs. Mary Dickow could identify the best person to provide details so I will reach out to her and see if she can post here. Also, this week is the national NP policy conference in DC, so I will keep my ears open for any relevant content about this (tho again,that will be focused on NPs).

Hi everyone, Yes, CA's Workgroup #1 completed a gap analysis as you described above and we are working to get the detailed document posted for sharing. It covers all RNs in the State of California with a breakdown showing RNs, NPs, CRNAs, CNSs, and CNMs. We hope this document will be helpful and will post updates here as soon as we have it ready for "prime time."
