Sen. Stabenow Introduces Legislation to Modernize Medicare Payments for Nursing Education

This week, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) introduced S.1569 to to expand our nation’s Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) workforce. If enacted, this amendment will ensure that Medicare payments for nursing education match the health care needs of current and future Medicare recipients.

To meet the current and future demands for health care of the 65 and older population, this bill focuses on educating more APRNs and preparing them to provide care in home and community-based settings. An aging population with increasing chronic conditions requires health care services that are focused on primary care, care coordination, transitional care and prevention of disease, areas where evidence shows that APRNs are highly effective.
