Nevada Action Coalition: Nurses Can Lead Future of Health Care in Our State
In a May 13, 2012 of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Nevada Action Coalition leaders Debra Collins and Linda Yi, position nurses – and the Institute of Medicine report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health – as key to improving the health of Nevada, and the nation. The authors, both with Action Coalition Co-Lead the Nevadan Health Care Sector Council, noted a key question asked by the IOM committee that produced the landmark report, “What role can nursing assume to address the increasing demand for safe, high quality and effective health care services?”
To address this question, Nevada leaders joined the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action and are working collaboratively to set goals aligned with the IOM recommendations, mobilize key stakeholders, educate policy makers and other key stakeholders, engage funders, gain visibility and, ultimately, advance the IOM recommendations in Nevada.
