Health Centers Get Boost from New Federal Grant Money

The Obama administration has announced that 1,100 health centers, with clinics located in medically underserved areas, can apply for a portion of $250 million in grant money now available through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

According the Washington Post, this funding, part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, will enable health centers to provide new services and update current methods of providing other services, including the use of electronic medical records.

Craig Kennedy, associate vice president of the National Association of Community Health Centers, a member of the Champion Nursing Coalition [http://championnursing.org/content/champion-nursing-coalition], said, "We've done study after study on the [numbers] of underserved, and  . . . there are  millions of people who need health centers today. This money is a step toward addressing that need." Learn more about this program aimed at helping health care providers reach Americans who struggle to pay for care.
