CCNA Strategic Policy Advisor Named to HRSA Medically Underserved Committee

On Friday, July 10, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced the appointment of a committee to review and update the criteria used to define medically underserved areas and health professional shortage areas. The committee was formed as part of the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

CCNA Strategic Policy Advisor Andrea Brassard, RN, DNSc, MPH, FNP will represent AARP on the committee. Dr. Brassard came to the Center from the George Washington University where she coordinated the adult nurse practitioner program and taught health services research and policy.  She is a volunteer attending at the GWU medical student run free clinic in southeast DC.  Her doctorate in nursing science is from Columbia University where she analyzed data from the Washington Heights Inwood Community Aging Project.

"I am pleased to announce this committee of distinguished experts," said Secretary Sebelius. "The purpose of this committee is to examine current methods for identifying areas of need and underservice and propose revisions if they deem that appropriate."
