Americans benefit when they have access to highly skilled nurses.

The life and breath of health care in all settings, nurses are attuned to the voices, needs and safety of the people they care for. Nurses know they are trusted by patients and their families alike – they take this trust seriously and pay special attention to consumer choices, backgrounds and preferences.

That is why AARP joined with the AARP Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to create the Center to Champion Nursing in America. AARP is committed to ensuring that we are well prepared for the future. And that future will rely on a well-equipped nursing workforce, one that will help us promote and maintain health and well being.

“My wife recently passed away from cancer. The nurses who treated her were compassionate, competent and caring. They did everything they could to treat the disease, make her comfortable and to maintain her dignity.

The Consumer-Nurse Partnership
Nurses don’t just work in hospitals, they are in primary care settings (like clinics, health care offices), schools, homes, rehabilitation and nursing homes, and public health clinics. Nurses work throughout your community providing a range of services and caring for a diverse array of patients. They are an important link between you and the health care system.

88% of Americans agree that making sure there are enough nurses to monitor patient conditions, coordinate care and educate patients should be a part of the effort to improve the quality of health care.

Americans clearly perceive the value of nurses. In all, 87% agree that nurses can play an important role in reducing health care costs in the areas of patient safety preventing medical errors.
