About Nurses
Related Resources
Nurses represent the largest health care profession in the U.S. Nurses don’t just work in hospitals, they are in primary care settings (like clinics, health care offices), schools, homes, rehabilitation and nursing homes, and public health clinics. Nurses work throughout your community providing a range of services and caring for a diverse array of patients. They are an important link between you and the health care system.
As health care has become more complex, requiring mastery of new skills and technologies, the role of nurses has expanded to meet new challenges involved in providing high quality care for patients and families.
Nurses receive varying years of training and different degrees.
Registered nurses typically enter the profession with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. Many, though not enough, go on to receive additional education that allows them to practice in advanced skills and become nursing faculty.
