I am looking forward to attending and hope we can mention advanced practice nurses, esp. nurse practitioners and their role in primary care also. Thank you for the invitation. Carole Jennings, PhD, RN, FAAN
I am sad that I will not be able to attend, but look forward to reading the papers in a future issue of Health Affairs. I hope that alongside discussing the critical role of nurses in advanced practice roles such as NPs in primary care, nurse anesthetist, etc, discussants will also remember that RN utilization at the bedside and streetside results in improved clinical outcomes for pateints and reduced long term costs for the system. As a Canadian nurse leader, I am often distress by the wide RN replacement taking place in the US. Research shows that it is a short term fix with long term negative consequences.
Best wishes and wish I was there to listen and discuss,
Doris Grinspun RN, MSN, PhD (c), O.ONT.

I was unable to attend the session yesterday, Friday, June 12. As a nurse educator and health care reform policy advocate, I have taught my Policy and Politics in Nursing and Health Care course for R.N. to B.S.N. students on Capitol Hill with health policy staff of key legislators and Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellows who are nurses. Some of these individuals are the attendees from yesterday, Dr. Wendell Primus, Dr. Ellen-Marie Whelan when she was with the Senate HELP committee, Rep. Lois Capps and Amy Fisher. At the request of the American Public Health Association (APHA), I presented this course to 136th APHA Annual Meeting last October in San Diego. This November I will be presenting to the 137th APHA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia my leadership in nursing education course, where students have received 'shadow leadership' experiences with Dr. Carol Romano, the U.S. Surgeon General, HHS Task Forces, providers in a variety of health care settings.
We must empower professional nurses and educate legislators to the essential and vital role of the profession of nursing in health care reform. There are for profit antagonists who may reject this, but our goal is the public's health.

In Philippines there are so many BSN RN who's not working to hospitals but rather some of them are Call Center Agents and Medical Transcriptionist. If America wants to solve the problem with the shortage of Nurses, they should coordinate with the Philippine President and Philippine Nurses Association.
