Chief Strategist’s Message: New Directions in Health Care, New CCNA Website

Over the past year, we’ve watched a major overhaul of health care debated, and the next months will bring us much more debate. Each day new developments on Capitol Hill take shape, proposals are offered, options discussed. We are on the verge of what most analysts deem a historic shift in how health care is delivered in this country.

At the Center to Champion Nursing in America, we know that nurses are central to high quality, accessible and cost effective health care delivery. And we also know that this care cannot be delivered without a nursing workforce that is right in both numbers and skills. That’s what makes all this change so fascinating. I’ve watched with interest as Congress, the Obama administration and state governments across the country have become more aware of and demonstrated their support for nursing education.

The Center, through our work to educate key stakeholders in this debate, is proud to have contributed to the shifting landscape for nursing education and practice. And we hope that our new, enhanced Website will continue to contribute to the discussion.

We are indebted to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for their continued support of our efforts and making available the services of Forum One Communications, our Website development partners. Please take some time to explore the site. You’ll find continued conversation on this blog, nursing and health care news, and resources to help you connect your work to nursing workforce solutions.

Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that every American has a nurse with the right skills, when and where they need one. This site is just one tool we will use help us reach that goal.

All the best and success in you duties , actually i am golbal BSN RN nurs and i am amember in your web site and i usually follow your articles and events by e mail , iam looking forward to work as RN in USA

Mohammed Albbadani BSN RN

I am a 'seasoned' RN, over 60, with many years of invaluable experience.  Unfortunately, here in Florida my experience doesn't count.  I am unable to find a part-time position and do not feel valued for my experience in any way.  Shorter shifts (8 hours instead of 12) are not available.  I applied for a part-time RN position, 8 hour shifts, and was astounded to find 60 other RNs competing for the same job.  Obviously, you don't want us.  I am currently obtaining a BSN, and then plan to obtain an MSN.  Perhaps then I can obtain work.  It's a shame.

That was bad to hear. However don't loose hope and think that there will be the best hospital waiting for you.Try some other hospitals and I'm sure there will be one that will best suit and value your experiences.Good Luck

I am a Registered Nurse in Texas and have worked in home health care since 1982.  Thanks to the Obama desire to reform health care, we are facing a cut back so deep we may not be able to continue to provide the needed care for our seniors to remain in their own homes but be forced to enter nursing homes. This actually costs the government more money but they are not looking at the long term benefit of home health.  The home health industry is facing a 18% cut if Obama gets his way.  Most of the industry will not be able to stay in business with that kind of cut back.  We need to stop this push to punish our seniors by removing valuable services currently making a big positive influence in their health care needs.  I am disgusted at the health care reform agenda in Washington today.  Jan H, Corpus Christi, Texas

Sarah,  Have you tried home health care.  It is a most rewarding experience. Many companies hire RNs for work a few days a week and will pay per visit.  I recommend Girling Home Health, in Tampa.
